From Military Enlargement to “City” of Pamplona: architecture and urbanism for a new image of the town

Abstract

The demolition, at the beginning of the 1970’s, of the barracks and military installations built in the end of 19th Century and at the beginning of 20th Century in the plots of the First Enlargement assigned to this purpose, will lead to a new urban reality of Pamplona. The named “Plan Plarcial del Centro Comercial de la Avenida del Ejército” was articulated around the big road of “Avenida del Ejército”. In this plan were included a collection of buildings that formed the “City” of Pamplona, because their construction not only would give a new and modern image to the town, but it would mean a move - ment of social, commercial and cultural activity to this area of the town...
