Abstract

Pablo Sarasate was a violinist of international renown: his work was celebrated and applauded in theatres and opera houses in many countries. A historical overview of the different stages and settings in which Sarasate triumphed is of interest because it enables a balanced appraisal of the great success achieved by this unrivalled artist from Pamplona. Moreover, this line of enquiry is also significant from an architectural point of view: Sarasate’s career overlapped with the golden age of architectonic typology. Theatres and opera houses were the public monuments par excellence in the nineteenth century.
