Visits “ad limina” by the dioceses of Pamplona kept in the Vatican's Secret Archive. Preview of documented reports
Abstract
Following a description of the characteristics and historical evolution of the institution of the visit ad limina Apostolorum Petri et Pauli, documentary sources from the dioceses and Rome are given, providing examples in the case of the Pamplona Bishopric. There then follows a preview of the documentation in the Vatican's Secret Archive, with a total of 34 visits made between 1585 and 1900. A distinction is made between the actual reports given (relatio) and other documents stemming from the visit (personal letters from the Bishops to the Pope or the Sacred Congregation, medical reports, the naming of substitutes, requests for extensions, fides visitationis, the document recording the fact that the report has been presented, attestatio visitationis...
