Teaching drawing in Tudela in the XIX century

Abstract

The “Real Sociedad Tudelana de los Deseosos del Bien Publico” with the Tudelan council and the Castel Ruiz Patronage, protected and financed the drawing instruction in Tudela along the XIX century. The drawing school formed engineers, handcrafters and the most important painters of the city, like Nicolas Esparza, who had there their first contact with the artistic world. Between the professors, stands out Eduardo Carceller, one of the most important painters of Navarra, although Valencian in origin, arrived in Tudela after approved an examination directed by Federico de Madrazo.
