Razones para la reforma de la audiencia episcopal pamplonesa a principios del siglo XVII
Parte del clero contra el obispo Mateo de Burgos
Abstract
Following the passing of the synodal constitutions in 1590, an attempt was made, in the day of Bishop Mateo de Burgos, at optimising the conditions of employment in Pamplona’s Episcopal Court, providing posts with security of tenure and the right to resign; with a view to improving the cathedral’s chapel of music, the Bishop also took advantage of the situation to impose a levy on most of the officers of his court. Among other things, this meant that his employees tended to charge higher fees to those clergymen who visited the court for whatever reason, leading to logical protests from the Bishop's clergy as a whole.
