El uso político de una imagen: el levantamiento sobre el pavés de los reyes de Navarra (1686 y 1815)
Abstract
When Antonio Chavier first edited the Fuero General of Navarre in 1686, he included a new illustration of the King on the ‘pavés’ (a shield held by the Lords of the Kingdom) during the coronation ceremony. This is an unusual
image in Europe, and a surprising one in the time of Absolutism. However, it reflects how this Kingdom reconstructed its laws and institutions after the conquest and union of Castile. This paper deals with the adaptation of the coronation ceremony after 1512 in Navarre, and its failure in Basse-Navarre.
