Abstract

Taking advantage of the excuse provided by the War of Succession, several people in Funes conspired to act against Pedro Jiménez de Tejada, who was, alongside his brother Diego, one of the most influential people in the town. They did this by casting, in unison, false accusations of disloyalty towards and treason against Felipe V in the war, even going so far as to suggest that he was the descendant of heretics and Jews. This awoke the interest of the Apostolic Board created by Rome and entrusted to The Primate of Spain and Archbishop of Toledo, which left the relevant trial proceedings in the hands of the Bishop of Pamplona and his Diocesan Tribunal...
