Libros de polifonía en la Catedral de Pamplona

Abstract

This article presents for the first time a detailed description and inventory of the six books of polyphony from the 16th through the 18th centuries kept in the Archive of the Cathedral of Pamplona. There are five manuscripts and a printed book with a total of 73 works, featuring compositions by Francisco Guerrero (1528-1599), Miguel Navarro (ca. 1563-1627), Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525/26-1594), Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia (1561-1627) and José de Torres (ca. 1670-1738), whose Misarum liber (Madrid, 1703) is kept. Worthy of note are works by Miguel Navarro, chapelmaster at the Cathedral of Pamplona, and the volume “Compendium Missarum”, copied in 1728 with masses by Palestrina,  which include one (Missa Assumpta est María for 4 voices) which is unique...
