Abstract

Pablo Sarasate (1844-1908) is one of Spain’s best-known international musicians. However, the bibliography about him is scarce and there are too many aspects of his work which have not been suitably tackled, considering that we are dealing with a world-famous musician who is possibly one of the three most influential violinists from the second half of the 19th century. This article is an attempt at explaining some of the keys to his work not as a violinist, but rather as the creator of more than fifty numbered musical works. The article aims to locate Sarasate in the field of composition and studies his contributions to the different genres he worked with.
