Abstract

In 1797, the parish priests or vicars, as they were then known, from the Pamplona parishes of San Saturnino, San Nicolás and San Lorenzo pursued a lawsuit against the Cathedral’s Archdeacon of the Table, who received the tithes from the four parishes then existing in the city, demanding a financial assignment or congrua dotación with which to live in accordance with the dignity and decorum befalling their important ministry. The parish of San Juan Bautista did not join the others in their lawsuit as its vicar was traditionally a canon from the Cathedral.
