Abstract

The current article studies the elections held in 1936 and the evolution of the council until the beginning of the civil war. The spectacular triumph of the “Bloque de Derechas” in Navarra at the elections held in February and April did not occur in Tudela, where the “Frente Popular” marked a tight victory at the first and a clearer victory at the second ballot. A significant change in the attitude of the Tudela electorate regarding the general elections of 1933, at which the right wing held clear sway, can therefore be confirmed.
