Dos esculturas del Museo de Arte Sacro de Corella
Abstract
At the Arrese Foundation’s Museum of Sacred Art in Corella, two sculptures of great dramatism are exhibited: a Christ tied to the column, by Juan de Biniés, and an Ecce Homo, still anonymous.
A comparison has been made of the sculptures with the written descriptions of the Turin Shroud and with a number of contemporary engravings, to try to evaluate the truthfulness of the wounds and the eventual source of inspiration of the sculptors on other plastic representations of their time. A description is also made of both sculptures, specially of their anatomic particulars and of the way Christ’s wounds due to the flagellation and the crowning of thorns are shown.
