Políticos-empesarios liberales y compañías en la explotación del bosque del Irati (Navarra) a mediados del siglo XIX
Abstract
This study gives an account of the successive creation of a number of companies (“del Irati”, “Inda”, “Carriquiri” and “Moso y Bezunartea”), whose work for ap proximately a third of a century centred on the timber trade in the Irati forest fol lowing the Valley of Salazar’s decision to rent it out because of the difficulties un dergone a result of the First Carlist War. The sources used (fundamentally, documents of notarial procedures) reveal the conditions of the contracts and permit an analysis of the strange composition of these companies, many of whose shareholders belonged to the political class of the period: one of Espartero’s ministers (the Alavese Agustín Fernández de Gamboa), several members of the Navarran Parliament and Courts...
