Abstract

This research paper represents an attempt to further our knowledge into nineteenth-century Spanish liberalism through the work of José Alonso (1781-1855), a man of well-known prestige in the legal and political world of his time, a man who became Minister of Justice under the government of Espartero. His written work includes an outstanding compilation of the legislation which was currently in force in Navarra at that time following the change of its jurisdiction in 1841. This book is one of undoubted legal value, which established him as the real Navarran civil lawyer. In his piece of work, the author makes sense of the key aspects of his liberal-economical thought.
