Abstract

This article offers a detailed biographical account of Isidoro Ramírez Burgaleta (1803-1865), a Navarran liberal committed, as his fellow liberals, to reconciling the 1837 Constitution and the “fueros” (the charter of Navarre). Two little-known works by Ramírez Burgaleta are presented. Two brief treatises: Apuntes para la modificación de los fueros de Navarra y medios para constituir la provincia (Notes for the modifi-cation of the Navarran “fueros” and means by which to construct the  province), reproduced here in its entirety, and Primeros pasos de Navarra hacia la guerra civil de 1833, opiniones y deseos de esta Provincia (Navarre’s first steps towards the 1833 civil war, opinions and wishes of this Province), both of which were published in Zaragoza in 1840.
