Revisión de un lienzo de Inocencio García Asarta

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to clarify a few points about the work of the painter from Navarra, Inocencio García Asarta (Gastiáin, Navarra, 1861-Bilbao, 1921), without doubt one of the masters of the first generation of contemporary painters in our Community. The work focuses on the painting that accompanied the official request sent by García Asarta in 1883 from Rome to the Regional Government of Navarra for a pension, so as to be able to continue his artistic studies in the Italian capital. Traditionally, this painting had been identified as the work entitled Gypsy with guitar and is currently on display on the third floor of the Museum of Navarra.
