Abstract
Documented simply as Bishop of Calahorra, Navarran historians were not aware until recently that Juan Almoravid ended his days as Archbishop of Seville, in a swan song both fleeting and unclear.
This study, however, does not only deal with the ups and downs of one person–this Navarran clergyman’s ecclesiastic career in Castile–, but also consciously attempts to set it within the specific historical/political framework of the end of the XIII century, after the rebellion against the French regime in 1276 led by the Almoravid and other nobles. The story is, therefore, not just that of the bishop himself, but also of those of his descent and other prominent members of the Navarran nobility who, as a consequence of the War...
