Fundación Museo Jorge Oteiza: arte y pensamiento en Alzuza [Jorge Oteiza Museum Foundation: art and thought in Alzuza]
Abstract
This article examines the figure of Jorge Oteiza (1908-2003) and the Museum Foundation housing his legacy in Alzuza (Navarre). It analyzes the trajectory of the Gipuzkoan sculptor, whose experimentation with emptiness revolutionized contemporary sculpture, alongside his extensive theoretical production. The study addresses the origin, concept and architecture of the museum, designed by Sáenz de Oiza, conceived not only as an exhibition space but as a research center where Oteiza’s legacy is fully preserved: sculptural work, experimental laboratory, documentary archive and personal library. The museum embodies Oteiza’s vision of the cultural function of art and its transformative potential.
