Abstract
We present a previously unpublished portrait of Francisco de Bourbon-Condé, Prince of Conty and cousin of King Henry of Navarre, for whom he fought from 1587 onwards during the Wars of Religion. The piece lacks documentation and cannot be traced prior to its entry into the collection of which it is now a part. Furthermore, the painter to whom it is attributed has very little technical literature. Throughout this article, we present, as a practical case study, a methodology for attributing works of art by artists with this problem, focusing on three fundamental points: its scientific-technical study using non-invasive techniques, iconographic study, and its detailed technical-formal and stylistic analysis.
