Abstract

The complexity of the Christian fact in the Basque area during Late Antiquity, where certain areas had remained impervious even to the Romanization, has generated intense historiographical debates surrounding the original chronology of Christianity in the Basque-Navarre current strip. Taking the sees of Calagurris and Turiaso as a temporal reference, we revalue the importance of the episcopal presence in Pompelo, probably from the late fourth century, as a means through which the Nicene message was spread throughout the urban space to be expanded later to vast rural areas still without romanizing.
