Abstract

This article has to do with the Bible that Sancho el Fuerte, King of Navarre, comissioned from Fernando Pérez de Funes and finished in 1197 (Amiens, Bibliothèque Municipale, MS. 108). After presenting the state of the art of this important manuscript, one of the oldest graphic bibles still in existence, the paper analyzes its iconographic themes and studies the diversity of models that inspired its remarkable images and miniatures: some deriving from the ancient Spanish Bible tradition and others of Oriental and Byzantine as well as European origins.
