Abstract

This paper studies one of the first inventories of the treasure of the Cathedral, carried out in 1531 by order of the canon treasurer Juan Tena, who was a man of great importance in the new status of the conquered Navarre and so incorporated into Castile. Names of kings, viceroys, priors, positions of the chapter and other people appear in these papers along with unique pieces, most of them disappeared now. Devotion, social projection of the donors, religiosity, artistic terminology and typology can be followed from this important document, which content is compared to the inventory held in 1511, just before conquest of Navarre, on behalf of the previous treasurer of the cathedral of the city. This position, from the 1368 concordat between the bishop and the chapter, should be responsible for the supplies and preservation of ornaments and silversmithing in the temple.
