Abstract

The painter was born in Pamplona, Spain, in 1873. He attended Pamplona’s Art School and was taught by Eduardo Carceller. In 1893, he tried to obtain a grant to study Art in Madrid from Navarre’s Government, but he didn’t achieve it. Between 1894 and 1915 he opened a drawing and painting Academy in Navarre. At that time he painted landscape and portrait. He also collaborated with his drawings in several Navarre’s publications, mainly in La Avalancha magazine. In the second decade of the century he moved to Madrid and started copying art works of the greatest Spanish artists, especially paintings of the Prado Museum, for the national and American market.
