El testamento de la reina Blanca de Navarra. La copia de los Archivos de Pau [The will of Queen Blanca of Navarre. The copy at the Archives of Pau]
Abstract
Due to its repercussions, the will of Queen Blanca of Navarre is one of the most important documents in the history of the Kingdom of Navarre. In her will dated 1439, Blanca, queen regnant of Navarre, appoints her son Carlos as heir to the throne, but stipulates that if her son were to succeed her before the age of 20 years, he should be proclaimed King with permission of his father, Juan II, King consort until then. In the meantime, his father would act as tutor and administrator of his son. Given that Juan II did not abdicate the throne in favour of Carlos, a long civil war started in Navarre confronting the supporters of the father, Juan II, and those of his son and heir Carlos, Prince of Viana. The copy of the will, held at the Archive of Pau (France), allows us to understand its content quite accurately.
