Abstract

This paper deals with the diversified property of medieval hydraulic facilities documented in Navarrese towns. The Crown, nobles, religious institutions, councils, bourgeoisie and ethnic minorities made up the varied owners list. Early royal authorizations, basic laws and real exploitation deny an exclusive control over access to water resources, so crucial for public development and economic growth. Councils and bourgeoisie will make progress regarding royal and nobles as main water facilities holders due to the particular demographic and socioeconomic evolution during the Middle Ages in Navarre.
