Abstract

Carlos II personally swore the fueros of Aragon and, by means of its viceroy, those of Navarre in 1677, and summoned the Cortes of both kingdoms. Nevertheless, it did not swear the fueros of Castile, Valencia or Catalonia. This communication tries to compare: 1.º, the previous claims, from Saragossa and Pamplona, for the oath and the meeting of cortes; 2.º the similarities and differences between the regal oath of Aragon and Navarre; 3.º the memory that both oaths of 1677 left to the Aragonese and the Navarrese. Aragon and Navarre represent two trajectories of integration in the Monarchy of Spain from different starting points, although not by impulses or so different ways at heart.
