Abstract

The journalist Manuel Aznar Zubigaray (Etxalar, 1893-Madrid, 1975) was a war chronicler in the French and Belgian front lines during World War I. This experience was decisive for the achievement of new journalistic tasks such as the direction of El Sol and for his initiation in a specialty he maintained during the rest of his career: war journalism. He was a correspondent and also a chronicler in Morocco and in the Spanish Civil war. He also analyzed World War II in several articles. His participation in these journalistic tasks, clearly supporting the ally cause, served as a change in his intellectual direction, going from Basque nationalist journalism (Euzkadi) to the leading national journal (El Sol).
