La sala de exposiciones de García Castañón de Pamplona: un viaje del arte local al arte global [The room exhibitions of García Castañón of Pamplona: a trip of the local art to the global art]
Abstract
The current communication outlines the history of the emblematic exhibition hall of Pamplona, García Castañón Art Exhibition Hall. It was founded by Caja de Ahorros Municipal de Pamplona (Municipal Savings Bank of Pamplona), as part of the social and cultural activity that the stated institution accomplished. It was founded due to Mr. Miguel Javier Urmeneta initiative, financial entity director, noted and well-known person in the Navarre society of the time. Its cultural management was entrusted to Mr. José María Muruzábal del Val. The present work deals with the first years of the history of the already named exhibition hall, the period between 1955, inauguration date and 1984, date when Mr. José María Muruzábal del Val cultural management ends. It should be also pointed out that the named exhibition hall fulfilled displaying local and regional art, and also more global art got to it too, mainly Spanish painting.
