Abstract

The Lodosa-born Captain of the pretender to the throne’s Royal Guard Eusebio López was a fervent Carlist. During his exile in Mont-de-Marsan, he learned the trade of bookbinder and settled in Tolosa on his return to the peninsula, marrying the printer and daughter of printers Juliana Mendizábal Lalama. Eusebio López significantly lifted the family press by publishing some of the most important Basque works of the day, such as
Campión’s Gramática (Grammar) and Aizkibel’s and the Novia de Salcedo dictionaries.
