Abstract

“Maestro Esteban” worked in the building of the Cathedral of Pamplona, which began in 1100. In the Navarran documents he appears in 1101 as “master builder of Santiago”. The same documents credit him with assets in the form of vineyards and houses, later sold in order to share in the profits of a mill. It is more than likely that the work performed at the Cathedral of Santiago refers to works aimed at restoring parts destroyed in the first stage of construction and the design of the polygonal chapels, and possibly the east wall of the transept.
