Abstraction in pointing and sculptures in Navarre. First appearance and development

Abstract

Abstraction in painting and sculptures in Navarre constitutes a creative trend that has evolved alongside prolific figuration both in terms of extent and results. Yet, as such, it is around 1973 when abstraction becomes formulated into both its geometric and expressionist aspects. Several events precede it: the gradual opening-up of Navarre to the outside world, which enables artists to establish contact with new trends, the social and cultural development of the region, and two significant events as far as aesthetic change is concerned: the 1972 Pamplona Encounters and the arrival of Oteiza in Navarre.
