Canteras de piedras de molino y moleros en Navarra [Millstone quarries and makers in Navarre]

Abstract

It is our intention with this paper to pave the way for the study of millstone production in the Autonomous Community of Navarra. The knowledge of the trade of millstones in Tierra Estella and the information citing the existence of millstones in the mountains of Navarra has helped us to identify several millstone quarries. The features of these prodution centres are portrayed in a general manner with the description of the tools and extraction techniques put to use by the millstone makers. This paper also includes some examples of millstone commercialisation.
