Etxalarko Galbarioa [Stations of the Cross from Etxalar]

Abstract

The present article transcribes and analyses a handwritten copy made by the Etxalar priest Teodoro Arburua at the beginning of the XX century. The text refers to the devotion of the Stations of the Cross, which would seem to have been of great importance in the Bidasoa area in days gone by. Although the manuscript dates from the beginning of the XX century, it is clear that the text contains characteristics from previous centuries in terms of lexicon, phonetic peculiarities and general style. The article analyses a range of aspects before concluding that the original text was possibly written by the prolific author Sebastián Mendiburu, who lived in the XVIII century.
