Distribution, meaning and origin of the geographical entity called saroi, in the light of the toponymy

Abstract

The objective of the work presented is to provide useful information on the distribution, meaning and origin of the geographical entity called in Basque saroi, that is, to help to realize the nature of the elements showing themselves in the Basque toponymy, collecting and sorting, by the way, data that may be practical for the diachronic study of Basque phonetics, morphology and lexicon. We also intend to see to what extent we can find out the characteristics that make up the entity saroi itself, or its evolution, with the help of onomastics, because, not surprisingly, its origin remains unclear.
