Criterios metodológicos adoptados para la transcripción de toponomástica tardomedieval en el proyecto de indexación del AHEB-BEHA

Abstract

The indexing of Bizkaia’s sacramental books carried out at AHEB-BEHA has led us to consider the methodological usefulness of some transcription criteria which allow us to gather, evaluate and systematize the complex palaeographical casuistry, referred to toponyms and anthroponyms, that is characteristic of the scriptural types corresponding to this late Medieval period. This difficulty in transcription is aggravated by the shifting situation of the spelling in most of toponomastics, given its Basque origin, and caused by the absence of scriptural tradition in the Basque language, so that it is common for this period its adaptation to Spanish orthography and habits.
