Abstract

This recapitulation gives an account of most of the aspects regarding Basque dialectology published over the thirty-seven years of Fontes Linguae Vasconum. The subjects are classified from a perspective half-ontological, half-methodological: history of Basque dialects, Bonaparte’s nineteenth-century dialectal vision, current situation of Basque dialectology, analyses which take the entire geography of the Basque language into account, supradialectal or wide-ranging essays, regional research, descriptions of the Basque spoken in a particular village, analyses of diverse dialectal aspects, cartographic works and articles of historical interest. At the end, there is a long list of dialectal testimonies written at different points in history. Basque dialectology still has a long way to go, but this recapitulation shows that the last thirty-seven years have not passed in vain.
