Abstract

In this article we find a brief research on “hika”, a linguistic address that shows close relationships mainly used among friends and relatives characteristic of the Basque language. This research is focused on two subdialects of the dialect spoken in Biscay. To fulfil his aim, the writer visited Oleta (Araba) and Eibar (Gipuzkoa), and, in both places, he interviewed a Basque speaker who gave his/her opinion about the “hika” address. Obviously, many more samples are needed to make a research really scientific. Moreover, the use of “hika” changes greatly among villages of the same area. Therefore, no fixed rules or working patterns can be deduced in the light of the information given by these two speakers, though, no wonder, some aspects of this report may be found really interesting. This research is divided into four parts: a survey, a translation of some sentences in Spanish, a commentary, and a verbal paradigm.
