Informe sobre el topónimo Erramelluri-Erremelluri-Remellur

Abstract

Documentation regarding the voice Arramelli-Erramelluri and other variants, of both an onomastic and toponymic nature, abounds both in and beyond the Basque Country, suggesting that it may not be correct to explain it in purely Basque language terms. In all probability it is a derivative of Germanic-Gothic origins *rom-, *ram- robust’, plus a Latin suffix –ellus, giving (E)rramelli, to which the Basque voice uri ‘village’ was then added, giving Erramelluri-Remelluri. The prothetic e-, a- would be of Pyrenean origin.
