Vocabulario documental de Mendavia (I)

Abstract

This study consists of a host of local vocabulary and idioms found in ancient archive documents from Navarre’s Western-Riberan village of Mendavia. The underlying Basque legacy is something to be taken into account, especially given the fact that these testimonies originate from a Romanized zone. The historical peculiarities and local lexicon of the Ribera region have not been subject to the necessary study the doubtlessly great interest they conceal might suggest. The work also contains reference to and excerpts from local folklore. This is the first humble installment of a far larger study.
