Propuesta para un análisis morfológico y léxico de la toponimia vasca

Abstract

The present paper deals mainly with four topics:

1. Some considerations of universal validity, though centred on Basque examples, about the natural process of formation of toponyms considered as a fossilization of syntagmas which in origin were ordinary.
2. A general scheme of all possible morphological combinations in a Basque toponym, together with a semantic classification of its possible components.
3. A valuation of all that the study of toponyms can contribute to the Basque linguistics, trying to especially fix the limits of the linguistic information coming from this source.
4. A proposal of word-processing to facilitate the utilization and selection of toponymic materials which are usually vast.
