Sócrates Quintana y la cuenca del Bidasoa [Sócrates Quintana and the Bidasoa basin]
Abstract
This paper proposes an outline of the presence and artistic activity of the Asturian sportsman and artist Socrates Quintana Montoto (1891-1984) in the lands bathed by the Bidasoa River. From the interpretation of the data offered by different sources, his link with that territory is revealed, the personal relationships he cultivates there are exposed, and a study of his paintings and drawings in the area is carried out. The study includes the description of those works, the enunciation of their general characteristics, and the comparison with the work of other artists who were inspired by the river basin. From all this derives his connection with the called Escuela del Bidasoa.
