Gobernar la Monarquía a través de virreyes: el VIII conde de Santisteban en Navarra (1653-1660) [Governing the Monarchy by viceroys: VIII count of Santisteban in Navarre (1653-1660)]
Abstract
Throughout the Modern Age, the role of the Viceroy became a necessary figure for governing the territories of the Monarchy since there was no powerful state to directly take this on. Using sources from the Archivo Real y General de Navarra and the Archivo Historico Nacional, we were able to study the particular case of the VIII Count of Santisteban and gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics he was subjected to by orders from Madrid and Pamplona. This type of analysis can lead to a more thorough understanding of the chronological and territorial development of these figures.
