Sarasate. Family, house of birth and Pamplona

Abstract

The house in which Sarasate was actually born has been the matter of some debate, though the subject is closed in documentary terms. The family of the violinist on his mother’s and father’s side did not live in Calle San Nicolás, but in the adjoining Calle San Gregorio, and the owner of the house of his grandparents on his father’s side –the widower of their heiress niece– wished that the marble plaque commemorating his birth be placed at this address.
