The parish church of Lerín: an outstanding example of manierist architecture in Navarra

Abstract

The parish church of Lerín, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, is a monumental dressed stone medieval church, extended with a new transept and an apse in the last third of the XVI century and first decades of the XVII. This work, carried out according to the drawings given by Juan Luis de Musante, from Geneve, and Amador de Segura, is one of the most outstanding works of the manierist architecture of Navarre which vaid vaults and coffered domes are similar to the most advanced designs of the Spanish architecture of the XVI century and its arches, corinthian pilasters and entablatures were typical of the Renaissance.
