On April 19, 1937 a decree of the Military Junta of General Franco forced the two main political forces of the so-called national side (Falangists and Carlists) to merge into a new and unique political party: FET y de las JONS. Such unification
was not accepted neither by the top leadership of Carlism nor by the basis of this political movement, who continued to defend their identity in the Tercios de Requetes. In Navarre, after several months of doubt and confusion, this decree didn’t work either. The clashes between Falangists and Carlists, that not ceased since the beginning of the Civil War, continued.
