Abstract

The Amazon shield, carved on the semi-concealed door of the Refectory in Pamplona cathedral allows a cycle from Hercules to be identified and constitutes a starting-point for getting to know the complex world of allegories and symbolism which surrounded everyday life in a mediaeval court like that of Navarra, open to European literary and artistic influences in the same way as those in other countries in its milieu.
