Abstract
Member of a well-known family in Pamplona’s oligarchy, the curriculum and status of Juan Cruzat (c. 1330-1373) are an illustration of the economic and social peak period of the urban class which prospered in the service of the Crown and the Church. As a cleric, his juridical responsibilities brought him near to the Bishop of Pamplona and the Avignon curia, and culminated with his being named Dean of Tudela. In the civil field, he performed relevant diplomatic missions in Carlos II’s intricate international negotiations as royal advisor. A brilliant career which brought him a substantial rustic and urban patrimony in the Pamplona area and which, in part, brought about his political fall.
