Abstract

The sale of favours as a means of obtaining resources by the Royal Treasury affected Navarra later than it did other Crown territories, gradually gaining a hold from the last third of the xvi century until it reached its zenith in the XVII during the reigns of Felipe IV and Carlos II. As far as jurisdictions were concerned, there was a change to the previous policy for the recovery of royal patrimony and the return to the Crown of the villas which had passed into the hands of Navarran dignitaries as a result of the debts and commitments contracted by the old Kings of Navarra.
