Bonifacio Iráizoz (1883-1951) y el modernismo musical en el contexto del Motu Proprio
Abstract
This article studies the musical production of Pamplona composer Bonifacio Iráizoz (1883-1951) within the context of the reforms which affected Spanish religious music following the issuing of Pope Pious X’s Motu Proprio (1903). In the first section of the article, the debate which took place in Spain in the first half of the 20th century on modern music in the church as a consequence of the ideas of the Motu Proprio is analysed briefly. The second section deals with the biography of Bonifacio Iráizoz and presents a first analytical approach to his music, in which an evolution from the tonal language and the influence of Cecilianism to more modern, experimental tendencies akin to Impressionism can be perceived.
