Abstract

Juan Ramírez de Arellano was a nobleman who was born in the kingdom of Navarra and spent his life at the service of three different Spanish kings: Charles II of Navarra, Pedro IV of Aragon and Henry II of Castile. He became lord of vassals in these three kingdoms, although at the end of his life most of his properties were in Castile, where he ended up by establishing himself in this kingdom, and became a member of the group of the Castilian higher nobility. In this article the author tries to illustrate through the reconstruction of the biography of this nobleman the phenomenom of the mobility among members of the group of the higher nobility in the Spanish kingdoms...
